Montefiore Conca Fortress

In the heart of Valconca rise up the impregnable Fortress of Montefiore Conca, built in the XIV century by the Maltesta family. In addition to its defensive functions, the castle became also an elegant abode to host influential personalities like the King of Hungary Luigi D’Angiò, Pope Gregorio XII and Pope Giulio II. The visit of the fortress donates unforgettable views, ancient frescos created by the Italian artist Jacopo Avanzi and hosted in the Emperor's Room and an unexpected surprise: an important collection of archeological finds brought to light by recent excavations. Moreover, the recently carried out restoration campaign allows today a complete visit of the Castle, also to the places never opened to the public. Location of mystery and legends, it is said that within the rooms of the Montefiore Conca Fortress, also known as “the Castle of the eternal lovers”, it is possible to perceive the wandering souls of two lovers: Costanza Malatesta and Ormanno, a german duke at the service of the powerful lordship of Rimini.
